Day 1 : Melbourne - Brisbane

Travel to Tullamarine Airport.

My morning started early, with a 5:15 airport bus on https://www.skybus.com.au/  to Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne and it’s easily one of the best $39 I’ll spend. No traffic to negotiate, no fortnight of parking to pay for, no tolls. Just get on, sit down and let it all happen. I said my goodbyes to the kiddos late the night before and Paul dropped me off early before he started work. It was rainy and cold and thoroughly Melbourne wintery waiting for the bus to arrive. We hugged a lot and whispered our quiet last minute family reminders and waved good bye as we have for twenty five years, with a blow kiss, a catch of each other’s kiss... then we gobble the same kiss up. That’s what 25 years of marriage gives you, these personal little rituals.

The check in at Virgin (https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/  ) was relatively smooth. As it turns out because I was travelling from Melbourne to Brisbane on Wednesday, then Brisbane -Los Angeles-San Francisco on Thursday, the lovely assistant checked me into all three flights. The flight to Brisbane was oh so smooth and not long after I arrived, I had taken my bags to Michelle’s place and was back on the commute to Southbank for a solo tacos and a cider lunch in my favourite Brisbane people watching spot. Southbank is absolutely gorgeous with its restaurants and river side vistas. From a swimmers perspective, Southbank has a fantastic man made swimming lagoon, compete with sand beach shores and life guards. It’s the perfect place to bring the kiddos for a dip, or lie around on the reclining chairs and catch some winter rays.

I poodled into the city, shopped in the malls , exchanged some Aussie dollars into Americano dollars (  https://www.travelmoneyoz.com/  ) people watched some more then headed ‘home’ by train; Brisbane’s metro system is ridiculously easy to use, especially if you live near a train station as Michelle does.

Michelle and I hit her local for dinner, burgers and another cider and tried to contain ourselves on out the upcoming adventure. After all this planning... it really was happening!

Day 7 & 8 Hiking Half Dome

I'll start by saying Half Dome is the hardest thing I've ever done. There simply is no contest. It beats the half ironman, it beats ...
